Feeling a little defeated

I could sit and make excuses that are probably valid ones to everyone else, but I've gotten so much heavier in the past few months. A lot of it is due to stress, but it boils down to me not being proactive and me not taking charge of the being the best I can be. I wanted to write this post in case anyone has ever been in my position. I really need to kick it into gear. There are so many risk factors for being overweight. Some of these include:

  • Heart disease

  • Type 2 Diabetes

  • Sleep apnea

  • Certain types of cancer

  • Strokes

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Many many other risk factors

This is so heartbreaking for me to sit here and list all of these. I really believe though that making it real and typing these facts out will really help me. I really need to write down my daily agenda and see where I can be more active when completing my daily tasks. I have to get healthy. I love my husband and kids so much and I can't bear the thought of putting them through any of these horrible medical issues, because I made a choice to not take care of myself. Taking baby steps this week in the right direction, but application is the key to all of the great resources that I'm receiving this week. If anyone has any comments on how I could add exercise to my daily routine, I would love it! Also, any low calorie, budget friendly recipes are great! As always encouragement and support from everyone is what's gonna be a huge part of getting me where I need to be.

  1. hey girl! I am finding it hard myself to work out and eat right. I am trying to get myself onto the exercise bike. I know if I just get on it for at LEAST 5 min that would help a lot. Maybe another excersie that we could do if your washer and dryer is downstairs is maybe do a couple loads of laundry and fold them in the oppisite place of the washer and dryer or just take a basket of clothes up and down the stairs a few times. That would be a good way to get a work out when we don't have equipment or gyms we could go to. I think it is def. time that we now hold eachother accountable for our exercising and eating habits. We are both seeming to be a little defeated right now so lets start! :D

  2. although working out is certainly good for you, it is portion/calorie control that most directly impacts weight loss!!! As a mom, you always find yourself eating the kids leftovers or snacking while you cook for everyone else because you spend so much darn time in the kitchen. One thing that has been great for us is cutting out high carb side dishes (no mac & cheese, potatoes, pasta etc - except a rare small portion of whole wheat pasta or rice) It seems kind of "anti-kid" after all we are used to feeding them that stuff - but now that we have gone to this for everyone - even the teen age boys - I wish I had done it sooner for them as well as us. For most meals I grill some kind of meat (chicken, fish, lean pork & we love our George foreman for this) and set out lots of nuts, fruits, veggies, cottage cheese, low carb yougart for the sides - it works really well for healthy eating/weight loss & is actually easier for me on the cooking front!! If we use bread, we try to use those 100 calorie thin bun type things (Arnold rounds - but there are lots of brands of them) or tortillas - always whole wheat!! Hope that gives you some ideas :)
